Mark Lake - Artifacts

Solid Surf mpg movie clip from Dan Murray

Mark Lake Solid Surf, Ft. Lauderdale, movie clip from Dan Murray.

Below you will find a completely historic collection of Mark Lake's signature models, and personal boards.  Mark's brother Tim did the setup for all the paint jobs on these.  Together they ran the factory for the skate company.  Today they run a high end custom cabinet business.  In the 70's they were some of Florida's first ramp builders.  Tight family.

You'll also see some news clippings, magazine ads, etc.  All from Mark's personal collection.

mark lake session 012.jpg (303157 bytes) Mark said that Tim did this one with automotive paint.  Check out the finish.  Glossy, metallic.  Very cool piece of history.

mark lake session 014.jpg (300075 bytes) One of Mark's first hand made creations.  Routed wheel wells.  Diamond tail.  (For those non surfers from the 70's that's pointed shape of this tail.)

mark lake session 015.jpg (295857 bytes) Even the wedge kick tail was made with a high level of craftsmanship.  Plus you can see how the shape was a pre-curser to the Flite deck he would design as his first signature model.  Skip down below to see the Flite deck.

mark lake session 017.jpg (307201 bytes) The Nightmare!!  Walker skateboards biggest selling single model of all time!  This was the board that put Florida on the map.

mark lake session 020.jpg (291284 bytes) Flite Mark Lake signature model.  Another beautiful deck.  Very good design.  I'd ride one today!

mark lake session 024.jpg (298187 bytes) Mark's first Walker signature model.  Notice the routed channels for grabbing airs.  This was big around '81ish.  There was also a purple version of this deck (I know that's what I rode) without channels.  Great design again.

mark lake session 022.jpg (298677 bytes) A Jay Adams Z-Woody.  Personally given to Mark at an early Kona contest.  Jay was so blown away by Mark's skating he walked up to him and gave him his personal board (complete!).  Mark has since misplaced the wheels and trucks...and yes you ebay freaks, he does regret it.
