Artifacts of the Month
Kelly Lynn's
Personal collection
Wow! It sure is cool to
look through some old stuff that has history to it. Consider this:
Skateboard City was the first skateboard park open in the USA. Kelly Lynn
was there, and by some estimation was probably the winningest skater of his era
in the State. We have the rare opportunity to check out his early boards,
from his handmade creations all the way through the 80's. This is history
folks, dig it!

OK,
now check this board out. Remember in last months interview with Folmer
how he described his first board as homemade, with Chicago skate trucks?
Well, this is Kelly's homemade board and he still has it! Total Florida
Skateboard History! We need to start a museum! Check out the
pinstripes. Pinstripes were Kelly's trademark. Check out his
helmets, and boards over the years, pinstripes everywhere.
Here
are some more of his homemade creations from the early days.
A massive skateboard trophy collection. I wouldn't
have guessed there were that many contests in Florida from '76 - '79.
Check out the huge one on the right!
Some of Kelly's t-shirt collection including the West Wind skateboard team
jerseys, and a Hester Series t-shirt.
Skateboard City t-shirt.
Skateboard City t-shirt and competition bib from the State
Championships, 1976. (Yeah, he won that contest too.)
Early Santa Cruz slalom board.
The first Kelly Lynn Pool Ply by Markel Skateboards. This
model had a wedge tail..
Kelly's second model from Markel. This model had the
more modern warp tail and a fuller/wider design.
A Markel advertisement from SkateRider Magazine. Kelly,
"Seadog", and Clyde Rogers. Check out
the "Clyde Slides" on their boards, (and the hair-do's!
Surf-Style baby!). Notice their team shirts, each with their own
name on the left sleeve. By the way, where are the "deep underground
enclaves of Florida?"
Markel Team shirts pictured in the ad above.
Kelly
Lynn signature sticker for promoting the Markel Pool Ply Design. (Kelly,
got any blank checks I can borrow?)
G&S freestyle board and pig board from when Kelly and
Clyde had moved on to the G&S team. Notice the round G&S
wheels. I think they called those rollerballs. I always thought
that was a neat design, but wondered if they had much grip with the lack of
surface area. It also looks like he cut this board down to match his
Markel design.
G&S team jerseys and t-shirts. What
class they had then, putting the team riders name on the shirt. Too cool!
